Interestingly, 2 scholarships were awarded by the Club before the Trust was formally established as an independent body in 1987. Since then both the number and value of the awards have increased.
In June 2018 the Trust awarded 4 Secondary School Scholarships; 3 Memorial Scholarships; 2 PostGraduate Scholarships and 2 Return to School Bursaries. All of the recipients have been local women. In addition, we administer the J.C.Reid Memorial Scholarship on behalf of the Reid family and as of 2018 North Island College administers an award on our behalf for a local woman continuing her studies in a Red Seal Trade programme. Since 1985 the Trust has awarded over a quarter of a million dollars.
The Trust has 8 trustees, each elected for a 4 year term from among the membership of CFUW PQ. They are responsible for establishing the number and criteria for the awards, publicizing them, selecting the winners, managing the finances of the Trust and reporting to both CFUW PQ and Canada Revenue Agency. Funds come from individual donors (mainly members of CFUW P-Q), an annual CFUW PQ grant and Thrifty Smile Card Programme.
