Scholarships and Bursaries

The Scholarship & Bursary Trust (SBT) raises funds in a variety of ways, including an annual used book sale and donations from CFUW PQ members and the public. Since 1984 we have awarded over $450,000 to local women and girls to further their education.

The Trust administers the JC Reid Memorial Scholarship on behalf of the Reid family. Vancouver Island University and North Island College administer an award on our behalf, for a local woman continuing her studies in a trade programme.

History of our Scholarships and Bursaries

Since its beginning in 1982, CFUW PQ club has been active in a variety of fundraising activities for scholarships. In 1984, the Ways and Means Committee organized the publication and sale of the first club cookbook; a second cookbook was published the following year, both raising seed-monies for our scholarship fund. Our first annual club book sale took place in February 1985, also to benefit scholarships.

The Scholarship and Bursary Trust (SBT) was formally established in 1987, (registered with CRA) and initially organized the books sale.  Subsequently the club became responsible for the book sale, the proceeds going to club operations and from these the SBT receives a grant. The first of the bridge luncheons was held in 1992, the goal of which was to establish and maintain a specific bursary for a mature woman entering or returning to post-secondary education.  A special fundraiser 2018, was our Memoir Writing Workshop, dedicated to raise funds for a one-time club Centennial Scholarship of $5,000 honouring CFUW’s 100 years.

The SBT also relies on donated funds from members of the club and the public, as well as several bequests. Details on how to donate can be found here
